The 2024 Wayne-Finger Lakes Technical Training Center Signing Day event was held on June 5, 2024, at the Newark, NY location. The 6 graduates we hired are as follows: Zachary Stone, Steven Large, Ryan Sicienski, Ryan VanWyk, Tyler Sloan, and Hudson Trail. At this event, they all signed their letter of intent to join the Halco team. These students interned with Halco three days a week for the last quarter of the school year, where they learned to hone and prove the skills they acquired through their two years of technical training through Wayne-Finger Lakes Technical Training and Career Center.
The Wayne-Finger Lakes Technical Training and Career Center program provides high school juniors and seniors, from all throughout Upstate New York, with the opportunity to build skills in HVAC, Electrical, Mechanical, and other trades. This year alone they achieved the placement of 61 local seniors with local companies.
Following the event Hal Smith, CEO of Halco, had this to say:
“Today’s signing day celebration for the seniors of the Wayne-Finger Lakes Technical Training and Career Center program is monumental!! These 6 seniors, who have chosen to enter directly into the skill trades — as well as enter a 5-year apprenticeship, have made a very wise choice for their career path!! Their commitment deserves to be celebrated!!! HALCO is very excited to employ these 6 young men!!”
Lisa Meade, Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning, said this about the event:
“Our CTE Signing event was designed to commemorate our students' decisions to take the next step in their career paths in Manufacturing, Auto Tech, Cosmetology, Culinary Arts, Electrical Trades, Health Professions, Heavy Equipment and more!
The event included several representatives from area organizations who will have the pleasure of employing these students in their respective workplaces and seeing first-hand the skills these students have acquired during their time in a CTE program. We are so very thankful for our industry partners, the work of our CTE Principals – Mr. McVey and Mrs. Brown, the outstanding faculty and staff at both of our Career and Tech sites.
We would also like to express our gratitude to Halco for helping provide so many opportunities for our students. Thank you for being a valued partner.”
Halco is more than eager for these graduates to join our team, as we believe that the trades provide an ideal alternative to traditional higher education. Their employment, along with enrollment in a 5-year New York State apprenticeship program, will provide these young men with a tradesmen card (which is the equivalent of a bachelor’s degree) and will allow them to find employment throughout all 50 U.S states. By embracing a younger staff, Halco is committed to building up the next generation of HVAC professionals so that the industry, as a whole, will continue to thrive for years to come.
Halco was founded in 1984 by 22-year-old CEO Hal Smith from Phelps, NY; It has gone from a one-man operation to a revolutionary industry leader employing over 200 people, with four locations in Upstate New York. Halco has been recognized by ACCA, NYSERDA and the Better Business Bureau as an industry leader in clean energy technology. We boast a 4.9 rating on Google with over 10,000 reviews.
