Our Training Center

Halco Training Center

Halco's Training Center offers classes in the fundamental trades of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and sheet metal, culminating in preparation for the North American Technician Excellence (NATE) certification or certification as a Journeyman Electrician or Plumber. Beginning in 2009, the Center has also begun offering innovative classes on home energy performance and the building envelope working with such organizations as the Building Performance Institute (BPI) and Comfort Institute.

We are commited to keeping our staff trained and updated with the latest the industry has to offer!

Our Intern Training Program

Over the years, Halco has developed a strong relationship with the local BOCES programs (Board of Cooperative Educational Services) and consistently recruits their students into our internship program. Participants from the Liverpool, Cortland, Fairport and Spencerport BOCES come to Halco to learn the HVAC and Home Energy Performance industry from the ground up, with many staying on as full-time employees after their internship has ended.

On The Job Training Program through the Finger Lakes Works Career Center

Residents of Ontario, Wayne, Yates or Seneca Counties are eligible for the OJT program if they meet specific requires in regards to job dislocation and income. Halco participates in this program and does industry-specific training, including a customized training plan for these employees. In exchange for the training, Halco is reimbursed up to 50% of the employee's wage rate. An OJT contract is limited to 4-16 weeks per worker and this program works for both new and current employees. There are regular consultations set up with a Business Service Representative to make sure expectations are being met by both the employee and the company. We currently have multiple employees going through this program with measurable success.

PON 2033 - NYS Registered Apprenticeship and Building Trades Training and On-The-Job Training

This program is focused on providing on the job training for new and existing employees and advance their skills in the renewable energy and energy efficiency improvements industries. This is a 26 week program and there is a cap on the amount of money a company can receive for these training measures. We have had multiple employees in the past participate in this training and are currently in the process of adding more employees to this program.

NYS DOL Approved Apprenticeship Programs

Halco also operates an Apprenticeship program. This program uses a combination of on the job training and classroom instruction. An apprentice works under the supervision of a skilled worker and takes classroom instruction at night or on the weekend. We presently have multiple apprentices participating in this program.
