Extensive Spray Foam Insulation in Syracuse, NY Home Reduces Energy Bills

Challenge

This Syracuse, NY home was very drafty and its owners were tired of paying their extremely high energy bills!

Solution

This customer called us in to perform an energy audit, in the hopes of reducing the draftiness in their home and lower their energy costs.  Our Energy Advisor came in and discovered their home was in desperate need of insulation and air sealing.

To close up the air leakage coming from the top of the house, we installed 6" of blown cellulose on the attic flat and 4" of open cell spray foam along the slopes.  We then sealed up the exterior with 6" of AirKrete along the outside walls and applied 2" of closed cell spray foam on the basement walls. 

After we finished, we tested the home's air leakage again and compared it with our initial reading. The results were incredible!  We started off with a blower door reading of about 12,000 CFM50 and ended up at around 4,700 CFM50--that's an improvement of 60%!  Needless to say, these customers were very pleased with the work that was done and as a result, their home will be much more comfortable!
